Being in a CLL class helped my chinese a lot even though I didn't take CLL. I'm interactig with PRCs everyday (since 50% of my course are foreginers), and they are so surprised that a local can use such 4 worded terms (成语) with ease. Now that I think of it, we really only communicated in chinese back then, and quite fluently too. My chinese would have degenerated had I not been mixing with the PRCs.

HEY everybadeh!

as some of you would have known, we're having a clss gathering/outing this fri! initially i said we'll be going out rite...but we've decided that we shall gather at mr lan's hse for potluck dinner! firstly, SAVE MONEY. secondly, more cosy and homely -.- hmm..

as the name suggests, potluck means each of us must bring some food to contribute la. so..... let's think of what food we can bring on fri! yay! the guys, even if u cant cook dun everyone just go and buy chips and snacks hor. at least buy some substantial food like satay/fried mee/rojak etc.

Below is the list of food that we're thinking of:
- chips (no more than 3 packets)
- drinks (about four 1.5L drinks will do)
- satay?
- nuggest, hotdogs
- fried beehoon
- curry chicken (whose mum can volunteer to cook!)

MAKING LESSONS COME ALIVE and see yourself half dead

i know this is random.

anyway, i was thinking about some things this morning and i had a moment of epiphany!

from this 3 months experience as a relief teacher,

i realised...
1. it's frigging difficult to remember names
2. it's takes SUPER ALOT OF EFFORT to actually remember a particular student's style of writing, individual mistake and choice of topic. so if you recall, mr wong would tell xiaomeng: "i can predict what topic you will choose in your block test. rethink your choice..." -.- woah.
3. writing "see me" on the piece of homework or forcing the student to come down for consultation is actually a STRESSFUL TASK. you actually think teachers WANT to see you so much? hoho. and you wonder why teachers hound you for work, force you to write extra essays (Mrs Lee). and even presents you a consultation booking form that eases the whole process of robbing away the teacher's much-needed personal time. (Mr Chua)
4. to prepare interesting methods to conduct lessons is a BRAIN CELL KILLING activity. do you recall our j1 GP lessons where we had skits, role play, some nuclear war activity and deciding whether to save the old scientist or a young disabled man. and you wonder where ms yang's brain cells came from..
5. and you'll find students remember how many times they have gone to the toilet in a day much better than what you've taught them. and while you are refraining from pulling your hair out because you're repeating the SAME thing for the umpteenth time, they still expect you to be patient. OH WELLS.

not that my experience's been that bad, but i just had the opportunity to look into the staffroom to see how teachers are humans after all...

bottomline: let's spend a minute to observe silence and appreciate teachers!

yeah...i decided teaching is one of the most noble careers around, especially with students like us. too bad, if i were to be a student again, i'd be the best one ever man! but haha so sad, our classroom days are overrrrr!

so there goes our last time gathering tgt as a cohort.. (not that we had the time and mood to reminisce and be emo ytd)

but still, it could be considered as a proper closure for us? hopefully a pleasant one for most. the end result of 2 years of hard (or maybe not so hard sometimes) work, lectures and tutorials, and here we have it - all summed up on ONE piece of flimsy half A4-sized paper. hmm...who dare say it's fair? but it's not entirely unfair either.

good or bad, there'll always be a way for everything/everyone, and a reason why some things turn out the way they turn out to be.

that said, it only gives us the tangible, the ABCDs that are printed black and white on paper, which of course do matter. but for how long? 6 months? 2 years?

the intangible - the fun we had in tutorials, the bonds we forged thru having common external 'threats' and 'enemies', our fame among teachers (for all the not-so-correct reasons), outings outside of class, our cliched "oh 你很好 SHIAO" convos..... are the ones that are going to live on for a long, long, long, long time.

ha, the other day eunice was commenting that on hindsight, most things would seem a lot more memorable. and i agreed, it didnt feel bad at all, even the minor conflicts and disputes along the way were not entirely unbearable. so i was telling her how sometimes those lame fun we had in class would just very randomly flash across my mind, and i'd laugh to myself very stupidly like when i'm on bus/road/train etc.

like for example,

one of the very first jokes during our first yr:
(during one of the skit presentation in msyang's GP clss)

Eunice (in the skit): "Hi, this is the pharmacy! I am the.."
Dt (one of the audience): "...farmer."

haha i dunno why, but i just seem to rmb this part very very well. and yuanxin (wow) who was sitting beside me went "shit 为什么 daoteng 学到 eunice!" i still rmb the setting! i think it was A4-01! or A3-01. eunice, hany, nigel and shengbin were supposedly presenting their skit.

how about let's have a fixed date in June every year to meet up? firstly, June = 6 = us. (but i dunno which day to choose since i cant decide what number B represents). secondly, June = JuneYang, the very very impt person in our 2 yrs! ok that was wholly random :D

after a few months of schoolless days, we found ourselves back to the familiar setting, at the same bench, same way of talking, same kind of laughing-like-mad, same kind of niao-ing. the only thing that has changed is that we're not wearing uniforms anymore, and that SIAN...threequarters of the class's not there. haha nvm..got other chances, we'll just meet up at most during results day. =x

2. it rained. so half the campfire was in the hall...but that wasn't a bad thing, because the hall stage is definitely a better place to see all the items, fac dances, and flag presentation. later they moved down to the central plaza where all the songs, dancing and lighting up took place.

(zhengyou...and?) for those who are working, haha jiayou getting use to worklife. and to everyone, i feel sorry for our pockets suffering for the public transport fare hike. suddenly i have like one million complaints about SBS and SMRT cos we're paying for lousy service! want examples? grumpy/unreasonable uncles/aunties, trains that arrive every 10mins when the platform's already damn packed, buses that leak, bus interchange that's stuffy, bus terminals with queues that snake around the bus interchange.

eh. i kinda miss school. tutorials especially...lameness shooting everywhere. but our last tutorial was like months ago. upper bkt timah road/dunearn road is so homely :)

hey all!

this period's a tough one for all of us. especially after seeing how the aep pple managed to stay overnight in sch to pia art and drag themselves back to sch agn the next day (*clap for u all!) it's a mere 5 weeks away from the exam we've been sort of studying for our entire 12 years of schooling. haha it's so ironic that all your 12 years of knowledge and efforts will be judged and reviewed based on a 3 hour paper. sian. anyway if you guys haven't seen mr chua's emb msg, go check it out! haha his punchline is ultimate and i like it :)))) i think i can remember it hahah.

anw, just hang on there people!!! it's like the final stretch, and though prelim results may be unreflective of the amount of effort some of us put in, believe that hard work pays off in the end okay! anw come to think of it, there's seriously no point to believe otherwise at this point of time! jiayou kkkk...next year's march will be the time when i hope everyone in 06s6b can hold good results in their hands and we'll be able to tell all our teachers that we did it, esp those who are still "waiting for us to shine". don't lose faith, may sound like silly optimism, but we can all do it ok!

i've serious doubts about how many people actually reads our cls blog. haha okay but nvm, i'll just post it anyway. guess what, i'm looking forward to grad day! are u?!! not cos i'm going to graduate (come on, i like hwachong lorrrr! =p) but cos i suppose it's going to be a memorable day. :)

(yea i know, complete breakdown of sentence structure)

SIX more weeks...
before everything's coming to an end.

no more dreadful combined assembly, no more morning assembly under the hot sun, no more nagging of attendance by auggie during CT sessions, no more assignments, no more tutorial lessons. yet they all mean one thing: no more time together. no more 6B.

i guess i'll miss school. or more precisely, i'll miss you ppl :)

A young blonde was on vacation in the depths of Florida. She wanted a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking. After becoming very frustrated with the "no haggle" attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the blonde shouted, "Maybe I'll just go out and catch my own alligator so I can get a pair of shoes at a reasonable price!" The shopkeeper said, "By all means, be my guest. Maybe you'll luck out and catch yourself a big one!"

Determined, the blonde turned and headed for the swamps, set on catching herself an alligator. Later in the day, the shopkeeper is driving home when he spots the young woman standing waist deep in the water, shotgun in hand. Just then, he sees a huge 9 foot alligator swimming quickly toward her. She takes aim, kills the creature and with a great deal of effort hauls it on to the swamp bank. Laying nearby were several more of the dead creatures. The shopkeeper watches in amazement. Just then the blonde flips the alligator on it's back, and frustrated, shouts out, "Darn it, this one isn't wearing any shoes either!"

heyo! for those who are going for the fac cip, here are some of the things to take note--
1. report to sch at 1pm on 3/3, outside the auditorium. the entire thing ends at 6pm. some of u have talentime, so most prob will be leaving early.
2. wear sch based top and any bottom.
3. details of cip: teaching them make chinese lantern, putting up performances and strolling with them in the neighbourhood. so far, we've only one performance, which is naichong playing harmoc. we need people to sing songs. volunteers?
4. the Home is Jamiyah Nursing Home, address 130 west coast drive s127444 (just in case anyone wants to know)

for those without CCA or CCA that's not compulsory, pls turn up! all (except osy, vincent, nigel n indian) have signed up, so as part of ur responsiblity, just atttend. it wont eat up much of your time. and pls dont give last minute excuses for not turning up. thank you (:

In case you all dunno why there is Valentine's Day, here's the history:

Saint Valentine's Day or Valentine's Day is on February 14. It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending Valentine's cards, candy, or donations to charities, often anonymously. It is very common to present flowers on Valentine's Day. The holiday is named after two men, both Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines". Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas.

SENIOR meet JUNIOR!

Here comes the 2nd present of the year..Senior meet junior..><

Everyone will have known by now that the snr meet jnr session is on the coming mon, 8th jan from 5-6pm. So no matter wad time ur lessons end (CLL 11am, Geog 1pm, Hist 2pm, Econs H1 4.30pm), will really appreciate it if u guys can make it an effort to stay back. (: The venue's not known yet, but will update asap.

So far, we've only thought of one game, which is the passing of polo sweets (passed on from our snr class). If anyone has any better and more refreshing ideas, pls share. Remember our aim is to let the juniors interact and us seniors have FUN watching them play.

And yes, the angel mortal game will start after monday, after everyone has drawn lots. So be prepared to start writing letters. We need to prepare the angel mortal letter box too. Any volunteers?

Lastly and finally, guess everyone will have received the email from vivien regarding the fac CIP. The time n dates are as follow:

Hey peeps.
We'll be going to shop at Vivocity Giant for the BBQ food and all kinds of junk food for the chalet. We'll use the class fund to pay for the food, so those who're going do not have to pay. (but still we're on a tight budget). Anyone interested to go, pls meet at 10am at Harbourfront MRT station on 14/11 (tue). After which we'll go to the chalet together. According to Ms Yang, the check-in time is 3pm.
ps. BBQ will be on the first night just in case anyone doesn't know and we'll b inviting teachers as well.

How is everybody doing? are you all coping well with your studies? I have heard that the finals have passed and everybody should have started partying right? I have yet to begin my exams and I would most probably complete my exams only in December. I figured out that it would be better for me to start preparing early. I have been adapting pretty well and I have just organized the mooncake festival and I thought that I should take the time to share with you all some of the pictures that I took during the mooncake festival since you guys are now in the midst of your incredibly long holidays. Sometimes, I really wish to go on a holiday. However, the experience here has its own benefits and strengths so I am now in the process of making sure that I make the best out of it.

Adapting to a new life....missing home

Hey 6B,
Thank you guys so much for your well wishes for my study in America and special thanks to ernie for coming down all the way from bukit panjang all the way to the airport in the wee hours of morning. The parting at the airport was an emotional moment but I was really touched....Haha now the blog has become fairly saturated much alive then it was before. It looks great! Even Miss Yang's friend is chipping in to help you guys!
Life in America is great ! I think it was a decision made that took me out of my comfort zone for better or for worst and I was trusted into the unknown. The first few days were difficult. I had adaptation problems, some of the ang mohs speak so fast and they have a different culture that really challenged my Asian values. They tend to think that Asian ppl are easy to bully so I had to stand up against them a couple of times and stay firm on my beliefs. My first friends were in fact Asians. The other Singaporean and the Hong Kong ppl here are quite helpful and the ppl in the Asian community especially the Chinese community tend to help each other out. I am in the midst of planning celebrations for MAF over here! Bringing the Hwa Chong culture to Deerfield! Haha! Ppl here are generally quite smart in one way or another. It is one of the best high schools in the country and I am now struggling to find my niche area fast. It is a game of survival. Most often, you have to do or die...haha not that serious but times like that do occur. I am now taking Astronomy, American Literature( Compulsory) , American History, AP Math and AP Physics. It is a nice combination.
My only problems are with American Lit and American History. Their command of English is something that I did not understand till the day I came here so for those of you guys planning to come over...be prepared that there is a very big jump from Singaporean English to American English. By the way, for any of you guys planning to visit, just drop me a note! and E mail me!!haha...I am very willing to keep up correspondence with you guys! All the best for your promos dudes!
